Notice to feed-readers re an updated blog entry for installing and playing NON-Amazon (Google Play apps) on Kindle Fire tablets (basic, HD, HDX)

This is a brief entry just to alert feed-reader users (using sites like Feedly.com) that the Kindle Fire HD/HDX Guide to installing and playing NON-Amazon apps (finding Google-Play apps that we can download direct -- NO 'side-loading' necessary) has an update to point out that the settings-location for allowing installation of NON-Amazon apps was moved to another settings category when they released the updated Kindle Fire tablets (HDX line, HD 2nd Generation) at the end of year 2013.

See updated entry for how to fix that.  (The feeds don't all pick up revised blog entries as current ones, and Feedly.com doesn't.  [Correction, this time it DID, but I'll keep this for any other feeds that don't carry these forward -- Thanks to Feedly for changing the process to include updated versions of older entries.]

Thanks to blog commenter Boyd for pointing out that Amazon moved the settings-location for allowing installation of non-Amazon apps

  1. I have tried a couple of times to load apps this way, but I've never been able to do it successfully. I tried to load onedrive and it just refuses to load. Easy Installer just took me to Amazon which allowed me to download it to the cloud but won't let me get it on the kindle. Can you give a slightly more detailed explanation about how to do this with either Easy Downloader or ES Fileviewer (I have both)?

    Thanks!

    1. Sulpicia (III), sorry for the delay in getting back to the Comments area! Was sick for a week.
I don't know what "onedrive" is... can you expand on that?

Easy Installer is in your Cloud after you clicked to get it, but you get it to your device by clicking on Cloud and then clicking on the app. THEN it's on your device and then you go to Apps at the top left of the device and choose 'on Device' ...

Could you try that before we go further?

    2. By the way, the actuial instructions are elsewhere though linked to in this post-alert. The instructions are at http://kindleworld.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-reviewer-myth-that-kindle-fire.html
If, by onedrive you meant the 1mobile app-site, try that link again, as it should lead you to the downloadable store app, which once installed is used the same way the amazon store app is.

    1. Rashid, maybe go over the steps more carefully? They're in the other entry linked to here: http://bit.ly/kwt1123.
I never mention "onedrive" - although you may mean 1mobile's webpage. You need to download the app at the link I provide. There's no reason it wouldn't load on the Kindle Fire. Maybe reboot your Kindle Fire?

Easy Installer shouldn't take you to Amazon nor does it help you download anything. That app is used -after- you download an app you want. It merely installs it -- but if you already have it, it would try to update it at the source (Amazon or a Google apps secondary app store).

For your purposes (app installation only), I'd definitely use Easy Installer (not 'Downloader') and not ES Fileviewer, which does all kinds of other things too, that aren't needed in this case. I may do a simplified blog entry eventually.

    2. By the way, Rashid -- your question is the exact one, word for word, posted by Sulpicia (III) on May 18. I replied to that and asked her to get back to me on what I suggested at that time.

NOTE: TO AVOID SPAM being posted instantly, this blog uses the blogger.com "DELAY" feature.

Am often away much of the day, and postings won't show up right away. Posts done to use referrer-links may never show up.

Usually, am online enough to release comments within a day though, so the hard-to-read match-text tests for commenting won't be needed this way.

Feedback and questions are welcome. Thanks for participating.

Technical Problems?
If you're having problems leaving a Comment, Google's blogger-help asks that you clear the 'blogger.com' cookies on your browser's Tools or Options menu bar and that will fix the Comment-box problems (until they have a permanent fix).

IF that doesn't work either, then UNcheck the "keep me signed in" box -- Google-help says that should allow your comment to post (it's a workaround to a current bug).
Apologies for the problems.
