Kindle 2 firmware update 2.03 coming in
Three people on forums (Amazon's and Mobileread's) have already said that they think they are imagining a noticeable increase in screen contrast; of course they (and I) hope it's not their imaginations. Wishing upon an Amazon user-rating star...
Others think it may just be making it possible for Amazon to disable text-to-speech, when the publisher insists on that, and fixing minor bugs.
If a person doesn't want to wait, the update can be done manually. For those eager enough to do this (it's not difficult) they must remember to UNinstall any changes they made, such as for personalized screensavers and for font-replacements they themselves may have installed. These personalized customizations need to be UNinstalled, latest one first. Only then will a new Amazon update work correctly. I'd do it now before Amazon tries to change your settings overnight -- or, keep your wireless off until you uninstall personalized installs.
A guide for a MANUAL install of the Amazon update file for those who can't wait is at MobileRead forums, thanks to Bruce Woodcock, but they (and I) don't take responsibility for what others decide to do. I'm just reporting its availability in a Kindle world :-).

NOTE: TO AVOID SPAM being posted instantly, this blog uses the blogger.com "DELAY" feature.
Am often away much of the day, and postings won't show up right away. Posts done to use referrer-links may never show up.
Usually, am online enough to release comments within a day though, so the hard-to-read match-text tests for commenting won't be needed this way.
Feedback and questions are welcome. Thanks for participating.
Technical Problems?
If you're having problems leaving a Comment, Google's blogger-help asks that you clear the 'blogger.com' cookies on your browser's Tools or Options menu bar and that will fix the Comment-box problems (until they have a permanent fix).
IF that doesn't work either, then UNcheck the "keep me signed in" box -- Google-help says that should allow your comment to post (it's a workaround to a current bug).
Apologies for the problems.
TIP: There's a size limit. If longer than 3500 characters or so, in a text editor, make two posts out of it.
Is possiple to register a kindle to may amazon account when my kindle is offline ? Do you know how to do that?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteWhen you go online at Amazon, to http://amazon.com/manageyourkindle
Do you see your Kindle identified? They normally register it for you, as far as the Amazon site's records, when they sell it to you and prepare it for shipping. There's some that you can fill in on the Kindle. It won't be sent back to the server in your case as there's no whispernet but it should just be more or less a copy of what is on your account at Amazon.
I'd like to know how it goes. I haven't had to do it but others have written this is all that's needed.
