BUT TODAY'S PROBABLY AN APROPOS DAY :-)
This is just a reminder that Amazon did finally make it possible to gift a Kindle book or books to anyone with an email address -- no Kindle required. Kindle Books can be read on Kindle devices, of course, but also on free Kindle reading apps for iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, Mac, PC, BlackBerry and Android-based devices.
For more information on gifting Kindle books (a feature long-requested by Kindle owners), see amzn.to/givekindlebooks.
To use the feature, choose a book in the Kindle Store, select "Give as a Gift" and send the gift to anyone with an email address. Notifications of Kindle Books gifts are delivered instantly via e-mail, and the recipient redeems the gift in the Kindle Store to read on any Kindle or free Kindle app.
For convenience, here again is the tiny FAQ at the givekindlebooks page linked earlier above:

Hope all enjoy the day, free of offices and job duties (for most), but keeping in mind those laboring in the kitchens to provide the special pleasures of the holly day.

Ah gifting. Here's the sort version. I live in Belgium with UK kindle (a/c with co.uk), my friend lives in Belgium with a .com a/c. He gifts me two books, email arrives and i try to accept the two books; sorry you are not able to download these books at your location. Contact customer support; same story but they will give me gift vouchers - FOR THE US .COM site - great. One of the books is actually available in kindle format in the UK but I was still not allowed to download it. This, in short, is a mess.
ReplyDeleteStaffordshire man,
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely goofy.
Was it Amazon.com customer support you contacted rather than UK support?

On the other hand, I can't remember if Kindle-gifting is available outside the U.S. though it -should- be at least in the UK (but maybe is run only from the U.S. for now).
Let me know if you have any success with any of the above, for Kindle books via UK...
Just to confirm what I think you reported a little while ago, that Kindle gifting is not yet available in the UK: "While gifting is not yet offered in the Kindle store, we are working to make it available in the near future".
