This set is another alert for Kindle apps but, they're still not available globally.
The GOOD news is that apps developers say that the plan IS to make apps global, and it's just a matter of time. It has also been pointed out that Amazon only recently released apps from the first batch of international developers of Kindle Apps. These include developers from the UK and Montreal, Canada, so far. There'd be legalities, of course, and data charges to be worked out (on apps using 3G wireless). Anyway, international readers, hang in there!
Amazon's Kindle Daily Post, seen at the top right of the Kindle Store's front webpage, featured this week the popular Notepad by the 7 Dragons group and included the new photo at the left.
The Kindle version of the Kindlestore, which is always linked on the front-page of a Kindle visit to the Kindle Store (via the Menu or by doing an alt-Home shortcut on your Kindle) does NOT include (at least today) the games or apps that are on the website version. Thanks to AthenaAtDelphi from The Netherlands for the correction in the Comments area.
Those new to Notepad might want to see the original blog entry for Notepad There are some Kindle forum threads that discuss how people use it, what questions they have, suggestions for the future, etc., and the 7 Dragons Team gives specific links on their website pages that give more information and video examples for the questions being asked. They also tend to answer questions rather quickly, while they do this on their own website.
Three Notepad forum threads I've seen: (1), (2), (3).
More New Apps to Try for Kindle: At the right, new apps getting good ratings.Clicking on the items take you to their Amazon pages and descriptions. There are other new ones, and you'l see those highlighted on most of the Kindle pages also. Among them, with fewer and mixed reviews, or none yet at this point, are Number Slide, Strimko, and The Citadel of Chaos. Diamond Crosswords - Crossword puzzles more easily completed |

Hi Andrys ,
ReplyDelete"Amazon's Kindle Daily Post (...) featured this week the popular Notepad by the 7 Dragons group and included the new photo at the left."
Not on my K3 (I live in the Netherlands) .
I just clicked on 'Kindle Post' (not 'Kindle Daily Post') , and the 4 most recent posts are :

Athena! Hi -
ReplyDeleteOn my Kindle, bolded links show as follows on front screen of Kindlestore when there on the Kindle.

However (re differences between U.S. & Netherlands)
1. The Kindle version of that editors' blog has more entries than are placed by Amazon into your copy of the Kindle Daily Post (the website for that is kindlepost.com but they use the full title on the Kindlestore page here and also in the header for the stories and on the Amazon Kindlestore's web page.
2. The featured games and apps are NOT in my Kindle Kindlestore page, just as they're not on yours. I'll correct that in the blog article and thanks for that!
3. When I go via the computer to the regular Kindlestore on the web, the "Kindle Daily Post" is seen at the upper right of that front page.
Do you have something like that when you access the Kindlestore via the normal web ?
Thanks again
Thanks for your reply Andrys .
ReplyDelete"Do you have something like that when you access the Kindlestore via the normal web ?"
This is what I see when I access the Kindle-Store via my PC :

(Click on the image for a better resolution)
I don't see a "Kindle Daily Post" , there's only a "Read Our Kindle Blog" .
Athena,
ReplyDeleteThis is very illuminating. Thanks for going to the trouble to do that.
Here's what I see, so you can see the difference in that direction too. I'm surprised it's that different when you're viewing from the Netherlands.
U.S. Kindlestore webpage.
Thanks again.
Hi Andrys ,
ReplyDeleteThings are getting clearer !
The 'Read Our Kindle Blog' link in the top right of *my* Kindle Store main page , is indeed the link to the editors' blog .
The heading on all the blog pages is :
"Kindle Post
The last word on Kindle®"
So it looks like my 'Read Our Kindle Blog' link has the same function as the 'Kindle Daily Post' link on *your* Kindle Store main page .
But there is a twist . The address of the blog main page is :
http://international.kindlepost.com/
I checked the blog , and the 5(!) most recent posts are :
- What Does Your Astrological Sign Reveal About You?
by Kindle Editors on 04/05/2011
- 5 Traveling Essentials from Lonely Planet
by Kindle Editors on 03/28/2011
- The Latest Kindle Offers Wireless Delivery of Audible Audiobooks via Wi-Fi
by Kindle Editors on 03/24/2011
- Essays and Reporting: Four Short Works on Kindle
by Kindle Editors on 03/22/2011
- Guest Blogger: Cara Black Discusses "Murder in Passy"
by Kindle Editors on 03/15/2011
There's no post about the Notepad app , so it looks like there are 2 versions of the editors' blog : one for American , and one for international customers .
And you were right when you mentioned :
"The Kindle version of that editors' blog has more entries than are placed by Amazon into your copy of the Kindle Daily Post"
The third post ("The Latest Kindle Offers Wireless Delivery of Audible Audiobooks via Wi-Fi") is not available on my K3 .
BTW , the last post (from guest blogger Cara Black) has strangely enough 2 different dates : 17 March for the K3-version , and 15 March for the web-version .
So , the confusion is caused by the 2 versions of the editors' blog , and by the use of different names for that blog .
on my Kindle : 'Kindle Post'
on my PC - the Kindle Store main page : 'Read Our Kindle Blog'
on my PC - the blog pages : 'Kindle Post'
on your Kindle : 'Kindle Daily Post'
on your PC - the Kindle Store main page : 'Kindle Daily Post'
Athena,
ReplyDeleteVery well laid out explanation.
Many thanks for that ultimate clarification. Wow. It's labor intensive to have different editions for different places...
The different wording makes it harder for bloggers writing to a varied audience!
Latest update :
ReplyDeleteI just found out that I can access the 'Kindle Daily Post' (the American version of the editors' blog) via the web !
Contrary to what I expected , I was not redirected to the international version (the 'Kindle Post') .
And much to my surprise , there's an enormous difference between the 2 versions of the editors' blog .
For example the number of posts . The number of posts more recent than 'The Latest Kindle Offers Wireless Delivery of Audible Audiobooks via Wi-Fi - by Kindle Editors on 03/24/2011' :
- U.S. version : 31
- Int. version : 02
------------------------------------------------------------
U.S. version : http://www.kindlepost.com/
Int. version : http://international.kindlepost.com/
------------------------------------------------------------
P.S.
Andrys , can you access the international version ?
That would make things a lot easier for you "writing to a varied audience" .
:-)
Athena,
ReplyDeleteOdd, I thought I responded yesterday but apparently not.
Thanks for checking out the differences, especially in how much is not included in one.
I won't be checking out both versions for everything, as I need to focus on just one -- and Amazon will be opening up in so many places (right now I'm not keeping up with Italy or France, and Germany) but it's great to know I can when there's a question about things. I think I've referenced the Post twice in 2 years :-) Thanks for letting me know that I can because if I reference the U.S. one again, I'll definitely check the one you see.
