The story of "Vladamir Ippolitovitch Vetrov, a promising technical student," who joined the KGB to work as a spy.  ...after some "murky incidents," he was given a desk job as an analyst and turned to alcohol.  "...needing redemption, he offers his services to the (French) DST.  Thus, Agent Farewell is born.  He uses his post within the KGB to steal and photocopy files of the USSR's plans for the West..." This book was written after the release of the film L'Affaire Farewell, starring Willem Dafoe.
"...Kostin and Raynaud provide groundbreaking insight into the man whose life helped hasten the fall of the Soviet Regime."
An interview with Sergei Kostin is at the product page and includes many interesting photographs of secret agent Vetrov.

Forum-thread starter RandomizeME includes a caution that it's not a book promotion thread for authors or for posts about indies or free books either.  "The thread is for discounts and price drops that many readers, especially Emily Bronte], find from publishers."

Highland Blessings

*** EDIT TO ADD:

* Previous Offer - August 31, 2011
This is a second book in a series, but can be read stand alone
I Shall Not Want : Psalm 23 Mysteries Book Two (The Psalm 23 Mysteries)
Author: Debbie Viguie
Genre: Fiction - Mystery - Religious

DESCRIPTION: Presbyterian church secretary Cindy Preston and rabbi Jeremiah Silverman, introduced in The Lord Is My Shepherd (2010), team up again to solve another murder. This time the deceased is the personal assistant to Joseph Tyler, a wealthy member of Cindy's church who's launching a new program to pair up homeless people with rescue dogs. Cindy and Jeremiah are trying to stay out of the way of the investigation of the assistant's murder-their last amateur-sleuthing foray landed them in the sights of a serial killer-but when homeless people begin getting killed and their dogs stolen, keeping out of it is no longer an option. Cindy and Jeremiah are two extremely likable protagonists, and the story is elaborate enough to keep readers interested but not so convoluted as to weigh the novel down. Though this is no cozy, the author does have a light touch-the danger to our heroes is real, but we're never in any doubt that they'll scrape through.

When our hero uses the potion to deal with some unfriendly mobsters, the results are comic and riotously unpredictable-including an unexpected run-in with a dogfish. '

  1. A slight correction: "Farewell" is not a Kurt Wallender Mystery (Henning Mankell's popular crime fiction series).

Am often away much of the day, and postings won't show up right away. Posts done to use referrer-links may never show up.

Usually, am online enough to release comments within a day though, so the hard-to-read match-text tests for commenting won't be needed this way.

Feedback and questions are welcome. Thanks for participating.

Technical Problems?
If you're having problems leaving a Comment, Google's blogger-help asks that you clear the 'blogger.com' cookies on your browser's Tools or Options menu bar and that will fix the Comment-box problems (until they have a permanent fix).

IF that doesn't work either, then UNcheck the "keep me signed in" box -- Google-help says that should allow your comment to post (it's a workaround to a current bug).
Apologies for the problems.

TIP: There's a size limit. If longer than 3500 characters or so, in a text editor, make two posts out of it.
