Quick Note + Free Kindle Books - Reminders and recommended browsing
Have been somewhat under the weather, but things are clearing up and I'll be back at it tomorrow morning.
I did take a little time to check out more closely the Wi-Drive and looked at what is needed for putting video on your Kindle Fire and also on the tiny Wi-Drive that can smoothly stream video or display images and personal documents to your Kindle Fire. And of course it is very useful pocketable storage for images, documents, video, for transfer to the Kindle Fire as needed. That the streaming or image and document access can be shared with two others is an unusual plus not possible with SD cards, though I'd like that feature too.
Kindle-Edition subscribers of this blog who've never visited the web page might want to come visit briefly (Link: kindleworld.blogspot.com), to take a look at the right-hand column that holds earlier articles that can answer questions that many have had about any of the Kindle models, older or newer, and info on how to make use of the many features not often described or publicized. Thanks for visiting, either here, or via the Kindle edition, and for the helpful comments I get to blog items or in email.

In the forums, I've found some who did not know that with the Prime membership, which gets you free 2-day shipping on almost all of Amazon's own items (not so much 3rd party Marketplace items), you not only have access to about 12,000 no-add'l-cost streaming videos, you can also borrow one Kindle book per calendar month, from a choice of over 75,000 now, without dealing with waiting times or due-dates.

NOTE: TO AVOID SPAM being posted instantly, this blog uses the blogger.com "DELAY" feature.
Am often away much of the day, and postings won't show up right away. Posts done to use referrer-links may never show up.
Usually, am online enough to release comments within a day though, so the hard-to-read match-text tests for commenting won't be needed this way.
Feedback and questions are welcome. Thanks for participating.
Technical Problems?
If you're having problems leaving a Comment, Google's blogger-help asks that you clear the 'blogger.com' cookies on your browser's Tools or Options menu bar and that will fix the Comment-box problems (until they have a permanent fix).
IF that doesn't work either, then UNcheck the "keep me signed in" box -- Google-help says that should allow your comment to post (it's a workaround to a current bug).
Apologies for the problems.
TIP: There's a size limit. If longer than 3500 characters or so, in a text editor, make two posts out of it.
Andrys, the wi-drive sounds like 'almost' perfect. What I haven't heard anyone talk about yet is whether or not Kindle books can be stored on it AND wirelessly transferred back, something like a 'mini-cloud'? I know you can copy books from, say, your Kindle Fire to a computer hard drive and later copy them back to the (same) Fire via USB, but it would seem if you can stream video, you should be able to transfer books somehow. Have you heard anything about this? By, the way, thank you for all your efforts. Your readers really appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteBob,
ReplyDeleteThe drive is accessed via the Kingston app and the app describes copying files only via the USB cord. So any transfer of files would need to be done before you left on vacation. It's more a wireless streaming device that can provide up to 32 gigs of added space for shared access between three users. And it's a unit that lets your KFire access the Net while accessing the Wi-Drive, which is its advantage over the 500g Seagate device that's a hard drive and is much larger. This one, smaller than my cell phone, will usually be with me and I like that others can access these on their devices when I want to show something, rather than have them crowd around my little screens :-)
Bob, thanks, by the way, for the nice words. Also, I noticed that the 16 gig drive price is now $50 rather than $60 while the 32 gig one is $90.
