Kindle News: Paperwhite Software Update v5.3.4 is ready

Kindle Paperwhite Software Upgrade to v5.3.4

The Amazon Kindle Forum has a notice about yesterday's software update for the Kindle Paperwhite (US)   (UK Paperwhite: here; Global Paperwhite: here.)

Kevin G. - Community Manager says:
' We have a new, free software update available for Kindle Paperwhite which can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/kindlesoftwareupdates/paperwhite [U.S.]

[Here's the UK-only software update page]

The software update will be delivered wirelessly and includes general improvements for your Kindle Paperwhite. This update automatically downloads and installs for Kindle Paperwhite customers; however, you can also manually download the software and update your device via USB cable.

If you have any questions or need help with this update, please visit the Kindle Help Forum: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/forums/kindleqna/ref=kindle_help_forum_gd. '

As ever, note that keeping your Kindle connected to a Wi-Fi network will drain your battery faster.  So, once you've got the update "over the air," put the Paperwhite back to "Airplane Mode ON" - which turns Wireless Off (unless they have finally put the "Wireless Off" and "On" back on the front menu as they recently did for the Kindle Touch recently and removed the 'airplane' icon).

Only if you'd rather not wait - DOWNLOADING and transferring the Update via USB
US:  Go to the Kindle Paperwhite Software Update v5.3.4 download section to get the instructions for the download and transfer to your Kindle via USB:
UK:  Go to the same for the UK-only page

The reason given was merely "includes general improvements" which normally means "bug fixes" but Amazon doesn't seem to like to detail them.  It can be like an Easter Egg hunt, and sometimes the eggs can't be found but perhaps the lawn is greener.

  1. Do you think there will ever be another firmware update for the Keyboard model?

I doubt there'll be anything soon, since the model was released in Fall of 2010, and it received a big update on Sept. 11, 2012.

It's rare that companies do large software updates like that one for a device that's two years ago. They gave it greatly expanded capability at that.

But, since it is a model that's used worldwide, you never know...but I haven't heard anything. I do still like it for its slow but free web-lookup capability, but it's the Paperwhite that I always use for e-Ink reading now. That built-in light is just too convenient (and pleasant to look at even in daylight as it makes the screen less green-greengray)

NOTE: TO AVOID SPAM being posted instantly, this blog uses the blogger.com "DELAY" feature.

Am often away much of the day, and postings won't show up right away. Posts done to use referrer-links may never show up.

Usually, am online enough to release comments within a day though, so the hard-to-read match-text tests for commenting won't be needed this way.

Feedback and questions are welcome. Thanks for participating.

Technical Problems?
If you're having problems leaving a Comment, Google's blogger-help asks that you clear the 'blogger.com' cookies on your browser's Tools or Options menu bar and that will fix the Comment-box problems (until they have a permanent fix).

IF that doesn't work either, then UNcheck the "keep me signed in" box -- Google-help says that should allow your comment to post (it's a workaround to a current bug).
Apologies for the problems.

TIP: There's a size limit. If longer than 3500 characters or so, in a text editor, make two posts out of it.
