Just an alert for newsfeed readers re an updated blog article on borrowing Kindle books and "KOLL"
Older articles are not put on the top of current newsfeeds, so the alert will be here for just awhile for those who use them to read the blog articles.
The updated blog article starts:
Finding the Kindle Owners' Lending Library (KOLL)
- May 2015 but Updated Jan 22, 2016,
While looking up info for Prime Music to use with the new Amazon Echo that I finally received, and to answer questions for friends who have received one as well, I found that the older methods for finding KOLL had changed for the later Kindle Fire tablets.
and can be read here.

NOTE: TO AVOID SPAM being posted instantly, this blog uses the blogger.com "DELAY" feature.
Am often away much of the day, and postings won't show up right away. Posts done to use referrer-links may never show up.
Usually, am online enough to release comments within a day though, so the hard-to-read match-text tests for commenting won't be needed this way.
Feedback and questions are welcome. Thanks for participating.
Technical Problems?
If you're having problems leaving a Comment, Google's blogger-help asks that you clear the 'blogger.com' cookies on your browser's Tools or Options menu bar and that will fix the Comment-box problems (until they have a permanent fix).
IF that doesn't work either, then UNcheck the "keep me signed in" box -- Google-help says that should allow your comment to post (it's a workaround to a current bug).
Apologies for the problems.
TIP: There's a size limit. If longer than 3500 characters or so, in a text editor, make two posts out of it.
For KU subscribers who are also Prime subscribers, the question remains 'how can I use my KOLL borrow without using a KU slot', because it seems everything in KOLL is also in KU. Well, not entirely. There are actually two pretty good books in KOLL that are not in KU: 'Guns, Germs, and Steel' Jared Diamond, and 'The Zookeeper's Wife' by Diane Ackerman (at least I think GGS still is). It took me several months to re-read the former book, and now I've borrowed the latter one. There must be hundreds of others in this 'KOLL but not KU' category, but they would be far lower in number of reviews/popularity and harder to find, and not worth the effort.
ReplyDeleteI missed this one. It's an entry that's temporary, for the newsfeeds. Anyway, I think 10 books at any given time is enough to deal with :-)
DeleteI was intrigued that KOLL on Paperwhite shows only 160,000+ wnile the Prime Eligible Kindle books number around 188,000. I guess there are a lot of color-photograph-focused ones that won't well on an e-Ink Kindle and so wouldn't be included in its own listing. Same for some graphics-heavy ones that are formatted in fancier ways for tablets. Oh, there are a lot of Prime-eligible books that one wouldn't really want to see in lending library and a lot of duplicates of older books...
Zookeeper's wife? I'll have to look that up.
