Quick, late Kindle Tips on two Kindle booklets on formatting text and pictures for Kindle books

A couple of short Kindle books for $0.01 today (normally $2.99) on the topics of how to improve your Kindle book layout with HTML and some good advice on making quality pictures for a Kindle book.

I've seen only the "Click to look inside" but the advice I saw in both looked very useful and well-written for Kindle books that you can get tonight and maybe tomorrow, for a penny each, or $0.01.

I don't know how long this sale has been on or how long it will last, but they're generally 1 to 5 days tops.

Both of these small Kindle books are only 68 to 69 pages long.

1.  Pictures on Kindle: Self Publishing Your Kindle Book with Photos, Drawings, and Other Graphics, or Tips for Formatting Your Images So Your Ebook Doesn't Look Horrible (Like Everyone Else's), by Aaron Shepard

Description: "... The advice offered by Kindle experts and even Amazon itself can give images that are tiny, blocky, noisy, or wildly inconsistent on different Kindles...
How do you make pictures look great on the Kindle? He answers that question, while also providing beginners a basic course in picture editing."

The author can rightfully boast "#1 AMAZON BESTSELLER IN PUBLISHING & BOOKS (JULY 2013"  (He priced the short books well at $2.99 each.)

2. HTML Fixes for Kindle: More on Self Publishing Your Kindle Book, or Tips for Touching Up HTML from Microsoft Word and Other Apps So Your Ebook Looks as Good as It Possibly Can
This should be helpful to those concerned about final layout as experienced by the reader.

Hope they're  also at this price tomorrow.  I just happened on these tonight.
They're both published in the last two months, and the feedback looks good.

Kindle Tip: Really Good Photo Basics Kindle book free again for maybe one day -- on 'mastering' basic camera settings

An excellent Kindle guide to photography basics is free again for today and I JUST saw that it was, because I was looking for it for a friend, for regular price.

I'm repeating the earlier blog details on this, to get this tip off tonight:
A book on the basics of camera settings -- what they mean and how they work together -- is free for a day or so.  Generally the free promos are one day to five, the average seeming to be 2 days while some are free for only a few hours.  This may have been made free earlier this week but, as mentioned, I just noticed it.

This is a guide to 'mastering' the concepts of aperture, shutter speed, ISO and exposure, written by AI Judge, whose Kindle books on photography basics get high ratings for clarity.  It's not a book for advanced users who already use these controls with a good understanding of them.  It's for those who depend on 'auto' mode but would like to experiment with more control over their results when they want.

It's a small book, only 68 pages, but I've downloaded it and it's very well organized, very clearly written and should be a boon for anyone who would like to try a bit more than 'auto' mode on their cameras and it will help in understanding why certain combinations of settings may be optimal for this or that situation.  Focal Length is explained as well.  The Kindle edition of this small guide is generally $5.99 - it's also available in paperback for $12.21.

And of course, the cost of the Kindle edition is $0.00 today.  I've no idea if it'll still be a free promo anymore on Thursday. Apologies for not looking earlier.

Kindle Book Alert: Temporarily Free Kindle book on 'mastering' basic camera settings

An excellent Kindle guide to photography basics is free for another day or so.

Guven Witteveen sent an alert yesterday that a book on the basics of camera settings -- what they mean and how they work together -- is free for a day or so.  Generally the free promos are one day to five, the average seeming to be 2 days while some are free for only a few hours.

Legacy: AmazonEncore Edition - Free this week

I'm not a Fantasy reader myself but the genre is huge these days, and most Kindle blogs have highlighted this book because (now that I've looked) the author's story is an inspiration and Amazon is featuring it in a big way.   Add that the Kindle edition is free until September 4, and that should be reason enough to download it.  But there's more.

This is Amazon's premiere title in the AmazonEncore program.  In their announcement, Amazon explains:
'...authors with great potential often struggle to connect with the larger audience they deserve to reach.  We’re fortunate at Amazon.com to have customers who know a good book when they read one...

AmazonEncore is a new program whereby Amazon will use information such as customer reviews on Amazon.com to identify exceptional, overlooked books and authors with more potential than their sales may indicate. Amazon will then partner with the authors to re-introduce their books to readers through marketing support and distribution into multiple channels and formats, such as the Amazon.com Books Store, Amazon Kindle Store, Audible.com, and national and independent bookstores via third-party wholesalers.

Our premiere AmazonEncore title, Legacy, written by 14-year-old Cayla Kluver (now 16), had review titles such as "loved it, loved it," "rich lyrical tapestry and story," and "breath-taking in scope and execution!"   In addition to raves from customers, Ms. Kluver has won several awards from literary groups. The new version of Legacy will be available in Fall 2009. '
And Fall 2009 is here.

On the book's main page: "Legacy was Bronze Medalist in Young Adult Fiction in the 2008 Moonbeam Children's Book Awards; Finalist in Young Adult Fiction in the National Best Books Awards 2008, sponsored by USA Book News."

Kluver started this novel, centering on the turmoil experienced by an 18-yr old heroine, when she was 14, but her 18-yr old sister was there with her world's experience :-) Here's a videoclip of the two sisters discussing her book and also an interview with young Kluver, who is 16 now.

The prologue and first chapter are available on the product page too.

It was interesting to me that some of the appreciative customer feedback was from people who had not realized the author was so young.

If you want the hard cover version after reading the Kindle edition, you can also get that here, though the hard-cover edition isn't free.

Kudos to Kayla Cluver!

As ever, other Kindle specials (free or low-priced) are here.
