Kindle Fire Software Update, Version 6.1 ready -- Two ways to get it.

KINDLEFIRE SOFTWARE UPDATE VERSION 6.1 IS READY

Kindle Fire Software Update, V6.1 is available online, and here's where you can download it, if it's not already on your Kindle Fire.

I understand that some have seen their new Kindle Fires reboot and install an update after they've opened it.  Some have noted slowness, which improved on a reboot (maybe the update was on it, ready to be activated).

Amazon's directions:
' To check whether you have Kindle Fire Software V6.1 already, or not -- tap the Quick Settings icon, tap "More," then tap "Device."

If your System Version begins with "Current version: 6.1," you are running the latest software.  If your System Version begins with "Current version: 6.0," follow the instructions [at that page] to take advantage of all of the features available for Kindle Fire.
. . .
To update your Kindle, ensure
. you are connected to a Wi-Fi network and that
. your battery is fully charged.

Tap the Quick Settings icon in the upper right corner of your device,
  then tap "Sync."

The software update will automatically download in the background and will be applied once download is complete and the device is asleep. '

The above describes a PARTIALLY automated update.

However, if you don't have a WiFi connection at the time and want to do this, you can do a MANUAL update at the software update page for Kindle Fire, where Amazon has step-by-step directions.

  1. Andrys, a friend of mine received a Fire two days ago. I was with him when he turned it on, and helped him connect to his wireless network. Once he was past the setups, a final screen told him an update would be installing, and the Fire would reboot. The update installed and the Fire rebooted as expected. No issues after that. The dialog box did mention that users should plug in the power cord. - Scott

  2. Yes,Frosty57,
I've noticed that some people with freezes at the start did not plug in the charger right after starting the installation as directed to do.

I did see that Steve Gibson, who knows what he's doing, did charge his 2nd one overnight.

NOTE: TO AVOID SPAM being posted instantly, this blog uses the blogger.com "DELAY" feature.

Am often away much of the day, and postings won't show up right away. Posts done to use referrer-links may never show up.

Usually, am online enough to release comments within a day though, so the hard-to-read match-text tests for commenting won't be needed this way.

Feedback and questions are welcome. Thanks for participating.

Technical Problems?
If you're having problems leaving a Comment, Google's blogger-help asks that you clear the 'blogger.com' cookies on your browser's Tools or Options menu bar and that will fix the Comment-box problems (until they have a permanent fix).

IF that doesn't work either, then UNcheck the "keep me signed in" box -- Google-help says that should allow your comment to post (it's a workaround to a current bug).
Apologies for the problems.
